Mahjar Post is a news and culture platform covering news of Arab and Muslim communities in North America, in English and Arabic. This page explains what information the site handles, and why.

Reading the site

You can read everything on Mahjar Post without an account and without telling us who you are. Like most websites, our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (your IP address, browser type, the pages you open, and the time) to keep the site secure and running. All site files are served from our own domain: the site does not use advertising networks or third-party analytics trackers.

Contact form and email

If you write to us through the contact form or at hello@mahjarpost.com, we use your email address only to reply to your message. Contact form messages go straight to the Mahjar Post mailbox and are not stored in the website database, and we never add you to a mailing list automatically.

Newsletter

Our newsletter is hosted by Substack. If you choose to subscribe, you do so on Substack and Substack's own privacy policy applies to the information you give it.

Site backups

To protect the site against data loss, we keep backup copies of the site's content on our own server and in the site's own Google Drive storage. The backup tool can only access the files it creates itself (the Google Drive "drive.file" permission); it cannot see or read anything else. Backups are used only to restore the site if its content is ever lost.

Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share personal information with third parties.

Your choices

You can read the site without giving us any information at all. If you want a message you sent us corrected or deleted, email hello@mahjarpost.com.

Changes

If the way the site handles information changes, we will update this page.

Reports summarised from the sources linked on each story page. Corrections welcome.
