Anwar calls for accountability over East Windsor nursing-home complaint
Connecticut state Senator Saud Anwar called for Fresh River Healthcare in East Windsor to be held accountable after an anonymous resident-safety complaint raised concerns about care and staffing, FOX61 reported on October 15.
Officials said the complaint contained images and video of a resident’s head wound infested with maggots. Long-Term Care Ombudsman Mairead Painter said her office had received dozens of complaints about the facility over the years, many unresolved, and had filed six staffing complaints.
Anwar called the allegations outrageous and said facilities must provide enough staff to meet residents’ needs. Painter alleged that the resident’s condition had deteriorated with limited staff intervention and poor care documentation, according to the report.
Facility spokesperson David Skoczulek said the resident’s needs and care had been significantly mischaracterised and that medical providers had seen the resident frequently, with extensive documentation. He said parent company iCare Health Network had begun investigating after officials raised concerns, and the facility welcomed legitimate oversight.
