School board preserves Eid al-Adha in Baltimore County calendar
Baltimore County's school board in Maryland voted to adopt a pre-Labor Day school calendar that retains the Eid al-Adha holiday, according to a statement from CAIR Maryland and the Islamic Society of Baltimore.
The Maryland office of CAIR and the Islamic Society of Baltimore welcomed the decision in a November 5 statement. CAIR said the board also instructed its Calendar Committee to record Eid as a holiday when it falls on a weekend and not to consider options that remove religious holidays.
The organization said Muslim students and families attended the meeting and students spoke in support of keeping Eid holidays. Islamic Society of Baltimore Education Secretary Eram Abbasi praised the students, parents and community members whose advocacy helped preserve the holiday.
