Preliminary tally records 97 Muslim election victories across 21 US states

At least 97 Muslim Americans won election or reelection to federal, state and local offices across 21 US states in the November 3 midterms, preliminary tracking results released Thursday show. The total includes 38 state legislative victories.

CAIR and CAIR Action, which released the figures November 5, said they were tracking 168 Muslim candidates who advanced beyond their primaries. They recorded 97 victories and 50 losses, with another 15 candidates leading in races not yet called and six in races too close to call.

The organizations said the tally surpassed the 82 victories recorded in their 2022 midterm tracking by 15, or about 18 percent. They projected that more than 100 Muslim candidates would win election or reelection once counting was complete.

The organizations described the findings as preliminary and said other Muslim candidates may have run and won beyond those identified so far.
