Calgary faith leaders support Islamic school after threatening emails
Faith leaders gathered at the Muslim Association of Canada's Islamic school in Calgary to support students, staff and families after threatening emails targeted the school. According to CityNews' October 8 report, it was among nine Islamic schools across Canada that received an email containing threats of violence against Muslims, including children. CityNews says it obtained the message.
School director Mazen Jichi said administrators reviewed visitor access and student drop-off and dismissal procedures while the school remained open. He also reported receiving a second hateful email. CityNews reported that Calgary police were monitoring the situation and the RCMP was investigating. Participants in the gathering stressed that the school community should not face hatred alone.
