Anani and Bazzi win Dearborn school board seats as voters approve $1.51 billion bond

Mallak Anani won one of three full-term seats on the Dearborn Board of Education in Michigan, while Ali Bazzi won a separate partial-term seat, the Detroit Free Press reported Wednesday, November 4.

Adel Mozip and Mohamed Ali Hammoud won the other two full-term seats. The full terms run for six years. The Arab American News identifies the partial-term candidate as Ali Kamel Bazzi and says that term ends in December 2028.

Voters in Dearborn and the part of Dearborn Heights served by the school district also approved a $1.51 billion bond proposal to construct six new buildings and repair others, according to the Free Press. The newspaper reported approval from 68% of voters in Dearborn and 69% in Dearborn Heights, citing results from the two cities.

The Free Press described the building program as the most expensive and ambitious in the district's history. Critics raised concerns about additional taxes and the planned demolition of historic buildings; school officials said aging facilities need repairs.
