El-Sayed says his first mission in Congress is to curb money's influence
Michigan's senator-elect Abdul El-Sayed said removing money's influence from politics would be his first mission in Congress, in an interview with The Washington Post on Wednesday morning, published November 4.
El-Sayed said his priorities were Medicare-for-all, getting money out of politics and making life more affordable. He argued that his campaign had brought political choices into public discussion rather than leaving them to wealthy and powerful people behind closed doors.
He also said he intended to use his medical and epidemiology background to address food additives and pesticide use. "That doesn't mean forgoing science," he told the newspaper. "That means using science to guide us about where to have righteous fights for the public's health."
