El-Sayed launches Habibi PAC to support political allies
Michigan Senator-elect Abdul El-Sayed has launched Habibi PAC, a leadership political action committee intended to raise money for his political allies, The Hill reported Friday, citing Federal Election Commission filings.
The committee is separate from his Senate campaign. Its name uses an Arabic term of endearment meaning "my beloved," which El-Sayed used in his victory speech after defeating Republican Mike Rogers.
El-Sayed became the first Muslim elected to the U.S. Senate in Tuesday's election. During the campaign, supporters wore "Habibi for Abdul" shirts.
