El-Sayed welcomes proposal to cut Israel aid, urges an end to arms sales in NPR interview

Michigan's senator-elect Abdul Rahman (Abdul) El-Sayed welcomed a proposal to end U.S. military aid to Israel and called for an end to arms sales, in a post-election interview with NPR's Morning Edition published on November 4.

NPR asked El-Sayed about what the network described as President Donald Trump's proposal to end roughly $4 billion in annual military aid to Israel by the end of the year. NPR said Trump had not provided details of how the cuts would work. El-Sayed responded: "I think the president is actually right on this policy."

He added: "I'd also like to see us stop selling weaponry that gets used to do the worst things, including genocide and apartheid, to Israel." NPR also reported that he questioned U.S. military support for Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Pakistan, saying American tax dollars should be spent at home.

Asked whether he still had work to do to win support from Jewish and Black voters who had expressed concerns about him, El-Sayed pointed to the election results while saying: "There's always more work to do. There's always more to build. There's always more conversations to have."
