Flint Arab American council expands voter education and election protection

The Arab American Heritage Council in Flint, Michigan, has been expanding nonpartisan voter education and outreach ahead of the November 3 general election, Lina Azeim, a representative of the organization, told Flintside in an interview published November 2. She said the work, underway since May, includes distributing voter resources, organizing phone banking and recruiting and training poll challengers through its Election Protection initiative.

Azeim said the council's Ballot Briefs social-media series explains voter registration, researching candidates and ways to take part in elections. She said immigrant and Middle Eastern and North African communities can face language barriers and misinformation, and described the council's role as providing information rather than telling people whom to support. Residents can join election-protection volunteer opportunities and share the council's educational resources, she said.
