Jacobi hospital in the Bronx opens expanded mosque for patients, families and staff
An expanded mosque at Jacobi hospital in the Bronx, New York state, is now open to patients, their families and staff. The renovated space can accommodate up to 75 people and includes a dedicated ablution area.
NYC Health + Hospitals announced the opening November 5. The mosque is in Building 1, on the third floor, in room 3E-26, alongside a campus that also provides Jewish, Catholic and non-denominational prayer spaces.
Hospital chaplain and imam Mohammed V. Noman said members of the congregation first requested designated Muslim prayer space in 1999. The space has since grown from a room with three prayer rugs to an area where men and women can gather for Friday prayers.
