Plummer begins Harris County transition, with emergency readiness and affordability on her agenda
Harris County Judge-elect Letitia Plummer announced the start of her transition at a Wednesday news conference, with emergency preparedness, infrastructure and affordability among the priorities she outlined, Axios Houston and KPRC reported on November 4.
Plummer said she had met with outgoing County Judge Lina Hidalgo and Houston Mayor John Whitmire. She plans further meetings with county department heads, emergency management officials and her transition team before taking office on January 1, 2027, the outlets reported.
The county judge is Harris County's top elected executive. The role includes presiding over Commissioners Court and serving as the county's chief emergency manager. KPRC reported that Plummer also plans to meet flood-control officials and first responders as she prepares to take over.
Plummer said she wants stronger cooperation between the county and Houston, particularly on infrastructure and drainage. Addressing residents beyond her own supporters, she said she would serve people who could vote, could not vote or did not vote. Her transition team is accepting resumes from people interested in joining the incoming administration, KPRC reported.
