Five Mamdani-backed New York City ballot measures projected to pass
New York City voters were projected to approve all five ballot proposals backed by Mayor Zohran Mamdani, The Hill reported November 4, citing Associated Press projections. The measures cover public-space permits, city contracting, project reviews, construction permits and financial reserves.
One proposal would simplify approvals for sidewalk cafes and other public-space additions, replacing required public hearings with an online comment process. Another would reduce paperwork and hearing requirements for small businesses and nonprofits seeking city contracts.
The remaining proposals would speed reviews of street projects, transfers of unused city property and office leases; create a centralized online construction-permit hub by 2030; and set a reserve-fund target of 12 percent of the previous year's tax revenue.
Common Cause supported the contracting and reserve measures but opposed removing public hearings on public-space uses. The Municipal Art Society opposed provisions allowing some public-land transfers without City Council approval, while the Citizens Budget Commission criticized the reserve target as insufficient, according to The Hill.
