Meta apologizes for No Kings account suspension during early-voting rallies
Meta reiterated its apology on Monday, October 19, after the No Kings coalition’s Instagram account went offline for more than an hour during Saturday’s early-voting mobilization, Reuters reported. Spokesperson Andy Stone said a surge in requests had triggered automated protections in error and restoring organizers’ access took longer.
The coalition rejected the explanation as insufficient and said it had received reports of restricted or inaccessible No Kings and early-voting content across Meta platforms. It called for answers, accountability and safeguards, Reuters reported.
It is also noted that thousands of No Kings events and demonstrations across the United States on Saturday, October 17, sought to encourage early voting before the November 3 midterm elections, Reuters reported on October 19. Demonstrators also protested President Donald Trump’s deportation policies, the war in Iran and other administration policies.
Democracy Now reported that events took place in all 50 states and that organizers were recruiting poll monitors and election defenders. Its October 19 bulletin described more than 3,000 local events.
