WCYB: Crowd fills Norton, Va., council meeting after rumors of a mosque

WCYB reported on Oct. 21 that a packed crowd attended Tuesday night's Norton City Council meeting in Norton, Va., after rumors circulated that a mosque could open in the 700 block of Park Avenue. According to WCYB, the rumors centered on the former Bank of America building.

WCYB said Norton's city manager told the station on Tuesday that no formal plans have been filed, but the city received an inquiry asking what the area's zoning allows. Several people spoke to city leaders about the rumors during the public comment part of the meeting, with many expressing outrage, WCYB reported.

WCYB said it will continue to provide updates.
