Arrest warrant, hate crime charges for Illinois man accused of threatening Middle Eastern home buyers, real estate agent

Prosecutors in Will County, Illinois, have obtained an arrest warrant and filed eight criminal charges, including three hate crimes, against a Wilmington man accused of threatening to kill two prospective Middle Eastern home buyers and their real estate agent if they bought a home in his neighborhood, the Joliet Patch reported.

Chad Glover, 42, faces two counts of intimidation, three counts of hate crimes and three counts of disorderly conduct, according to the criminal complaint. A Will County judge issued the bench warrant on Thursday and ordered Glover held pending a pretrial detention or conditions-of-release hearing, the Patch reported.

The complaint alleges that on July 14, Glover made derogatory statements about the victims' race and threatened to kill them as they viewed or showed a home in his neighborhood. The Patch said it is not naming the three people because they are identified as victims in the criminal complaint.

CAIR-Chicago welcomed the warrant and charges in an Oct. 22 statement. "Every family has the fundamental right to seek housing and live safely free from bigotry, intimidation, and violent threats," said Ahmed Rehab, the chapter's executive director.
