CNN: Scammers use anti-Muslim posts to lure users into financial schemes

Researchers at the Washington, D.C.-based Center for the Study of Organized Hate found more than 220 accounts that appeared to be involved in financial or sex-bait scams, CNN reported November 3. The accounts used anti-Muslim posts to attract engagement before directing users toward supposed investment schemes.

Some accounts impersonated people around President Donald Trump or presented themselves as government or news sources. Researchers found no connection between those accounts and the figures they claimed to represent, CNN reported. The identities of the operators and the number of people who lost money remain unclear.

X did not respond to CNN's request for comment, but many accounts were suspended after the network asked about them. Telegram said it would investigate and removes fraudulent accounts flagged by moderators or users.
