Cook shifts Michigan Senate race to Lean Democrat
The Cook Political Report moved Michigan's open U.S. Senate race from "Toss Up" to "Lean Democrat" in its final ratings change before the midterm elections, analyst Jessica Taylor wrote on November 2.
Taylor said the change was based on new public and private polling, including a New York Times/Siena poll that put Democrat Abdul El-Sayed 11 points ahead of Republican Mike Rogers. She said operatives on both sides did not expect a double-digit margin.
Cook said its decision was in the making before El-Sayed's former primary rival, Representative Haley Stevens, endorsed Rogers, and that the endorsement did not change its view.
